Premier Danielle Smith speaks about compassion payment for E.coli victims

This morning Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced that the payment compassion plan received around 775 applications from families who were affected by the Calgary E.coli daycare outbreak.

On September 15th Smith announced the payment would be two thousand dollars to each family.

I’m pleased to say that the portal opened on Monday and parents have been informed by children and family services that they can apply for their payments. As of yesterday we received approximately 775 applications.

Cases have continued to steadily decreased as time passes and many children that were affected have been cleared to return to daycare.

There are currently only four children in the hospital and 351 lab confirmed cases

Health minister Mark Joffe spoke to the media about the source of the outbreak. The likely source of the E.coli outbreak from three weeks ago has been identified. Joffe said in a quote this morning

Based on our investigation we believe that meatloaf and vegan loaf meals were served for lunch on August the 29th most likely contain the E.coli bacteria that led to these infections.
