Youth crime headed in the right direction

Calgary, AB, Canada / RTBN

Youth crime in Canada is a complex issue that may never be fully solved but right now it is trending in the right direction. With the amount of youth cases going to court since 2017 heading in a downward trajectory.

In 2017 there was over 16 thousand decisions made when it came to youth crime, now just under 5 years later it has gone down to 6 thousand decisions.

With lower cases the percentage of guilty youth has also gone down, the percentage was sitting just above 51 percent in 2019, over the last two years however, it has fallen to 47 and 44 percent respectively.

The biggest drop was seen between the Covid years. from the start of 2019 to the end of 2021 we saw over 4000 less cases, a drop that big hasn’t been seen since the 2013 flood so as the world comes out of the pandemic time will only tell if this trajectory will continue.
