There was a house fire in the community of Hillhurst on Tuesday, November 19th. Calgary police believe the fire was set deliberately and are seeking information as it could be connected to a Bitcoin scam.
Fire crews arrived promptly and put out the fire. No one was injured, and the damage to the home was minimal. However, during the investigation it was revealed that multiple neighbours in the area had letters asking for bitcoin transfers left on the front steps of their homes. Calgary Police believe the fire and the threatening letters are related.
Calgary Police are trying to identify who dropped off the letters, and are asking residents of the neighbourhoods of Hillhurst, Hounsfield Heights, and West Hillhurst for CCTV footage that could help in the investigation.
Anyone with information or video footage of people or vehicles in the area on Tuesday, November 19th between 1 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
