The Alberta Minor Hockey Week tournaments have kicked off in Calgary and Edmonton. More than 23,000 players aged seven to 18 are participating, representing more than 1,250 teams and playing about 1,800 games this week.
Joseph Schow, Minister of Tourism and Sport said Alberta’s Minor Hockey Week tournaments are great opportunities for young athletes from across the province to showcase their skills and competitive spirit.
Kevin Kobelka, Executive Director of Calgary Hockey, addressed the opening at Max Bell Centre, highlighting that the tournament’s primary goal is to provide young participants with the chance to showcase their abilities, not only on the ice but also as leaders
Kobelka also stated that the event allows children to form new friendships, connect with new people, and become good community ambassadors.
This year marks the 45th edition of Esso Minor Hockey Week in Calgary, with over 13,000 players from more than 650 teams participating across 38 arenas in the city.
