THE CALGARY STAMPEDERS HAVE TRADED FOR STAR QUARTERBACK VERNON ADAMS FROM THE BC LIONS.
ADAMS WHO IS 31 IS SET TO PLAY FOR HIS FIFTH CFL TEAM SINCE HE ENTERED THE LEAGUE IN 2016.
IN RETURN, THE LIONS RECEIVE THE 9TH OVERALL, AND 29TH OVERALL PICKS IN THE 2025 CFL DRAFT, AS WELL AS A SECOND-ROUND PICK IN THE 2026 DRAFT, CALGARY ALSO ACQUIRES THE 32ND OVERALL PICK IN 2025 AND A THIRD-ROUND PICK IN 2026.
THIS MOVE COMES AFTER BC’S GENERAL MANAGER, RYAN RIGMAIDEN, CONFIRMED PLANS TO TRADE ADAMS, SOLIDIFYING NATHAN ROURKE AS THE TEAM’S STARTING QUARTERBACK FOR THE 2025 SEASON.
ADAMS, WHO JOINED THE LIONS IN AUGUST OF 2022 FROM THE MONTREAL ALOUETTES, THREW FOR 1,504 YARDS AND SIX TOUCHDOWNS OVER SIX STARTS WITH BC. HE LATER SIGNED A CONTRACT EXTENSION THROUGH 2026.
IN CALGARY, ADAMS IS EXPECTED TO BE THE STARTING QUARTERBACK, AIMING TO REVITALIZE THE STAMPEDERS’ OFFENSE AND BE THE FRANCHISE QB THE STAMPS HAVE SEEKED SINCE THE DEPARTURE OF LEGEND BO LEVI MITCHEL.
THE TRADE SHOWS BOTH TEAMS’ INTEREST IN STRENGTHENING THEIR ROSTERS FOR THE UPCOMING SEASONS.
