Calgary, AB, Canada / RTBN

The NHL playoffs are right around the corner.

With just one spot left to face the red hot Washington Capitals.

Tonight the Montreal Canadiens will try and clinch their first playoff berth since 2021 where they lost in the Stanley Cup finals.

The team their battling against for the last position: The Columbus Blue Jackets who haven’t made the playoff since 2020.

Montreal needs just one point from tonight’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes to punch their ticket to the first round and eliminate Columbus who has made a valiant effort to stay in this playoff race.

The top two teams, the Winnipeg Jets and Vegas Golden Knights have the best odds to hoist lord Stanley this year.

Winnipeg will faceoff against the St. Louis Blues in the first round, the Jets won the regular season series between the two clubs, winning three games to one.

Vegas will play the Minnesota Wild who recently clinched the first wild card spot after a come from behind win against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Golden Knights have beat the Wild every game this year and while that may be concerning to most, Wild fans don’t seem to be phased by the past matchups due to one player not being around for any games.

Star forward Kirill Kaprizov was injured for the Wild during key matchups which fans speculated to be the game changer on making the playoffs this year.

Kaprizov has played 41 games this year, putting up 25 goals and 31 assists for 56 points.
